Sadag launches four new online support groups in October
Participation in these online groups is free and participants may remain anonymous.
The South African depression and anxiety group (Sadag) plans to launch four new online support groups in October to commemorate Mental Health awareness month.
Sadag said it was proud to introduce groups aimed at providing much-needed assistance to people facing mental health difficulties.
“We understand the challenges people face when seeking help for their mental health, and our online support groups are designed to break down those barriers. We believe no one should have to face mental health challenges alone, and together with our support group leaders, we can offer a safe space of understanding and compassion,” said Sadag coordinator Stacey Coconas.
– On Tuesday, October 3, the group for those recovering from operations or injuries will be launched. It will be hosted on Microsoft Teams at 12.00 monthly. To join this group, contact Roxanne on WhatsApp at 076 275 6053.
– On Friday, October 6, a group for teachers and student teachers will be launched. Educators are encouraged to join to connect with others who may be facing mental challenges in the profession. Contact Seren on 073 666 8875 for more information. The group will meet on the first Friday of each month.
– On Thursday, October 19, a group for those living with depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder will be launched at 18:30, and will meet biweekly. WhatsApp Janine to find out more about joining the group on 078 284 5939.
– On Wednesday, November 8, a group for LGBTQIA+ individuals living in rural areas who face unique challenges and stigma will be launched . Meetings will take place every second Wednesday on WhatsApp Video. Contact Will on 074 057 1780 to find out more.
Participants have the option to remain anonymous, so they can share their thoughts and feelings in a confidential environment.
Each group will be facilitated by trained Sadag support group leaders who have experienced various mental health conditions.
