North shows water supply improvement

Water supply has also been restored to all low-lying areas of Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane and Winterveldt.

The metro has seen a significant improvement to water supply in Soshanguve, Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane and Winterveldt.

These areas had experienced water supply disruptions due to the thunderstorm and subsequent power trip at Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch water treatment plant on September 19 and 21 respectively.

Rand Water’s Hartebeeshoek reservoir, which supplies Soshanguve, Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane and Winterveldt, was so badly affected it ran empty.

Metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba said the city managed to fully restore water supply to Soshanguve over the weekend.

“Water supply has also been restored to all low-lying areas of Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane and Winterveldt.”

Bokaba said high-lying areas are expected to receive water as reservoir levels, which are currently low, improve.

He said the city pleads with residents in the low-lying areas to be mindful.

“Residents should use water sparingly, and assist the reservoirs to recover speedily so that high-lying areas can also receive water.”

Bokaba said Hartebeeshoek has since recovered hence the city’s reservoirs are also recovering.

He said water tankers have been dispatched to the affected areas as coordinated through ward councillors.

The city apologises profusely to residents experiencing water outages.
