Dog taken in stolen car found at last
Haiku, a, 11-year-old Border Collie was missing for 10 days after her owners car was stolen with her in it.
The communities that came together to search for a missing 11-year-old Border collie finally found Haiku after 10 days.
Haiku was in her new owner’s [Dr. Selma van Schouwenburg] car at a shopping centre on Lynwood Road in Pretoria on September 22 when it was stolen.
Haiku recently had surgery on a hind leg and was limping and struggling to walk.
Tebogo Maredi, director of Soshanguve animal shelter had been actively searching for Haiku every day.
An ecstatic Maredi shared the news of her safe return with Rekord.

On Monday Elaine [a homeowner] lured Haiku into her yard, then closed the gate to trap her inside.”
He said it was through the community spreading the word and coming together that they could finally capture Haiku.
“We posted on many different groups. When she made her way into the bushes towards Derdepoort, we went to most of the houses that we could access to spread the word… to be on the lookout for her,” said Maredi.
Haiku was spotted near the Mamelodi West cemetery last week, and search teams said she was heading towards Eersterus. She was last seen on Saturday evening in Eersterus.

On Sunday, October 1, Maredi monitored the site where Haiku was believed to be sleeping overnight.
Van Schouwenburg’s relative, Ferdinand Loubser, told Rekord that someone had bumped her with a trolley while shopping, and thinking nothing of it, proceeded.
But when she got back to where she had parked, her car was missing and the car keys no longer in her bag.
The car was found in Selepe Street near the Mamelodi Baptist church in Mamelodi West, on Saturday morning, September 23.
The dog collar was inside, but unfortunately, Haiku was nowhere to be seen.
Loubser told Rekord the family left dog food with the security guards at the cemetery where Haiku had last been spotted.
Van Schouwenburg was overjoyed to be reunited with her best friend.
