College’s All Star Sport Award goes to high jumper

Champion high jumper and teacher Michelle Ngozo says she is looking forward to qualifying for more competitions next year.

The exceptional achievements of the IIE’s Varsity College athletes were recently celebrated at the annual Pretoria Sports Awards.

The awards ceremony celebrates the top student athletes’ performances throughout the year and commemorates the hard work and dedication of its Lynnwood Glen Sports Club members in the east of Pretoria.

Michelle Ngozo, a champion high jumper, was bestowed with the coveted All-Star Award, a testament to her outstanding contributions to the institution’s sports legacy.

“Having been honoured with the award when I was in a room with such amazing sportsmen and sportswomen left me with a feeling of deep gratitude,” she said.

Ngozo, a science teacher, was also recognised for representing the IIE’s Varsity College Pretoria at the 2023 University Sports South Africa (USSA) National Championships and at the Fisu World Student Games hosted in Chengdu China between July and August.

“It was an amazing experience and because it was my first time representing the country as a senior, it was very different to anything I have experienced yet.”

Ngozo’s spectacular achievements serve as an inspiring narrative for aspiring athletes, emphasising the importance of hard work, dedication and perseverance.

“I am looking forward to furthering my studies and qualifying for great competitions and a few international events in the coming year,” she concluded.
