East mall entertains little ones with new Afrikaans and Zulu cartoon

A 100 learners from Curro got to see Paw Patrol in Zulu and Afrikaans before anyone else at The Grove Mall.

Learners got to enjoy a special screening event at Grove Mall celebrating the launch of the new Zulu and Afrikaans versions of Nickelodeon’s hit show, Paw Patrol on Monday, March 18.

The launch of the new language versions of the show coincides with the launch of Nick Toons, a new channel on DSTV offering children’s shows in multiple languages.

Walking down the iconic Nickelodeon orange carpet and enjoying treats like slushies and popcorn, 100 young learners from Curro in Pretoria east got the chance to experience a morning out at the mall.

The learners between seven and eight years old are exposed to official languages as part of their curriculum, which made the event a perfect way to celebrate cultural and linguistic diversity.

It was the first time that the show had been translated into these languages, and it was a huge hit with the young viewers who attended.

The event was made extra special when two characters from Paw Patrol, Rubble and Skye, surprised the kids with an appearance.

Lilly Venter, one of the learners, said she was excited about the show being broadcast in their home languages.

“I am going to watch the show at 15:00 in Zulu,” said Venter.

“My favourite character in the show is Skye because she is pink,” she said.

Another learner, Malibongwe Malimela, said his favourite thing about the show was that the characters are puppies and he likes puppies.

“My favourite character is the peach puppy, Ryder,” said Malimela.
General manager Julie-Anne Claassen, speaking on behalf of The Grove Mall, expressed her pride and excitement in bringing the event to life.

“This is an opportunity to bring young learners, who speak multiple South African languages together to celebrate a first for South African television, and The Grove Mall cannot be prouder than to have put this together with our partners at Nickelodeon and Curro,” said Claassen.

Catch the new Paw Patrol episodes in Zulu and Afrikaans on Mondays at 15:00 on the DStv channel 308.
