No winter swimming for these Pretoria residents

Here are the swimming pools that are closing for the cold season.

Winter is slowly approaching and many public pools around Pretoria will be closed from the beginning of April to avoid cold weather damage.

Municipal spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the regional swimming pools close every year after the Easter holidays.

According to Mashigo, regional swimming pools will close on April 2 and resort swimming pools on April 30.

The following centres and areas will close their pools for winter:

– Pretoria North
– Soshanguve
– Club Rendezvous
– Deon Malherbe
– Temba
– Tjaart van Vuuren
– Sunnyside
– Atteridgeville
– Les Marais
– Gert van Schalkwyk
– Laudium
– Eersterust
– Mamelodi East
– Mamelodi West
– Zita Park
– Zithobeni
– Bronkhorstspruit.

Mashigo said only Hillcrest swimming pool has a heating system, therefore it will remain open this winter.

“It has a heating system but currently needs to be repaired due to damage caused by load-shedding. The metro is currently attending to this.“

Theft and vandalism are threats to swimming pools, especially if there is no additional security to safeguard them.

Mashigo said the city provides security at the regional swimming pools within the limitations of the budget.

“The Tshwane maintenance budget for swimming pools is R2 519 040,” he said.
