How many millionaires live in Pretoria?

Have you ever wondered how many millionaires, centi-millionaires or billionaires live in your neighbourhood?

The latest African Wealth Report for 2023, published last year, revealed that Johannesburg is in the lead, with a whopping 14 600 millionaires, 20 centi-millionaires, and two billionaires living there.

In the second place, Cape Town has 7,200 millionaires, 26 centi-millionaires, and one billionaire living there. 

Third place goes to Durban and Umhlanga, with 3,600 millionaires and ten centi-millionaires living on the south coast. 

Pretoria earned the sixth spot with 2,400 millionaires and two centi-millionaires living in this vibrant city. 

It is worth noting that these millionaires are considered high-net-worth individuals (HNWI) who have a net worth of at least $1 million (R18,455,495 Million). 

HNWI numbers rounded to the nearest 100. Multi-millionaire figures rounded to the nearest 10.

The report also compares their relative wealth growth rates over the past ten years. 

“Johannesburg and Pretoria performed relatively poorly in terms of growth when compared to the other cities and areas listed, mainly due to coastal semigration.” 

The report furthermore said if the current rate of internal relocation continues, Cape Town is on track to overtake Johannesburg to become South Africa’s wealthiest city by 2040
