Drugs worth R70k found in woman’s room

The suspect was arrested and the case has been referred to the organised crime unit for further investigation.

A 27-year-old woman was arrested on Monday afternoon (April 8) when a crime prevention team confiscated illegal substances suspected to be drugs in a room she occupied on the corner of Lillian Ngoyi and Madiba streets.

Warrant Officer Duane Lightfoot said this followed the team being informed of a possible syndicate dealing in drugs.

Lightfoot said swift reaction by the team led authorities to a flat identified to be the suspect’s.

He said on law enforcement’s arrival, a search was conducted and drugs were found and confiscated.

“Drugs with an estimated value of about R70 000 and coins to the value of more than R4 000 were recovered at the scene,” he said.

According to Lightfoot, the case has been referred to the organised crime unit for further investigation.

“The suspect is to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court and further investigation is still underway.”

Pretoria Central station commander Brigadier Gibin Hlengane Mashaba applauded the members for displaying a patriotic mindset.

He also said there were a whole lot of drug syndicates operating within the inner city and more raids will be conducted to put the perpetrators behind bars.
