TV presenter, private investigator accused of attempted murder both get bail

The duo is currently facing three counts of attempted murder and trespassing after woman opened case.

The Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court north of Pretoria has released two attempted murder suspects on R5 000 bail.

Moja Love and Sizokthola presenter Xolani Maphanga (39) and his bodyguard, Tshenolo Private Investigation Company director Bongani Makhabela (33) appeared in the court on April 16 on three counts of attempted murder and trespassing.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said on March 14, the two went to the complainant’s home in Soshanguve looking for drugs.

She said the two were in the company of crew members who “have not been identified”

Mahanjana said they told the complainant they were looking for drugs they alleged the woman sold.

“When they could not find the drugs, it is alleged that the two assaulted the woman with a sjambok, shocked her with a taser gun and further suffocated her brother.”

She said the woman opened a case three days later.

“The two handed themselves over to police on April 9 after a warrant of arrest was issued against them.”

By means of an affidavit the two denied committing the offences and asked to be released on bail.

“The state did not oppose their release, however, asked the court to impose conditions that the two should not communicate directly or indirectly with the witnesses,” said Mahanjana.

The matter was postponed to May 21 for further investigation.
