Metro urges EPWP participants to update their contact details

Over 4 000 EPWP participants could not be reached in a recent selection process due to their incorrect and outdated contact information.

Tshwane recently urged all participants in the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) to ensure that their contact and physical address information is up to date on the metro’s systems.

This comes after a significant number of participants were not reachable due to outdated contact details, particularly changes in cellphone numbers.

According to deputy mayor Nasiphi Moya, a recent selection process using a lottery system showed that 8 000 participants were identified for this year’s intake into the EPWP.

She said during the contracting period from March 5 to 18, it was found that over 4 000 participants could not be reached.

Moya said one of the causes of the recent lottery selections’ low and almost nonexistent uptake is the inaccurate and outdated contact information recorded on the EPWP database.

She said that despite the EPWP division’s attempts to reach many of the selected individuals, they still could not get hold of them.

“All selected EPWP participants are encouraged to verify and update their contact information so they can fully benefit from the programme,” she said.

She said participants should visit the metro’s offices at Sammy Marks Square, 138 Church Street, Pretoria Central, to provide the necessary updates.

Moya said the Community and Social Development Services Department will conduct an outreach programme to assist participants in updating their information and completing any necessary registrations.

“This proactive approach aims to ensure that all participants have the opportunity to contribute effectively to the EPWP,” she said.

She said the goal of the outreach is to increase the number of participants in the metro’s short- to medium-term poverty reduction activities by conducting a question-and-answer session.
