Central police welcome conviction of armed robbers

The two males were arrested and convicted for robberies they committed in late 2020.

The Pretoria Central Saps have expressed their gratitude over the May 6 sentencing of two armed robbers to 12 years each.

Mudzungwane Alusani (31) and Dusty Mogashoa (38) were convicted for aggravated robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The duo was reportedly apprehended by police on October 3, 2020, after committing a series of robberies in the CBD.

Warrant officers Sophie Samuels and PM Sithole alongside two community safety patrollers, Senzo Jiyiya and Sizwe Magana received a tip about a duo that was threatening community members and businesses alike at the time.

“A swift reaction led to an arrest at Paul Kruger Street next to Dita. The two men were searched two firearms fully loaded with 26 bullets were found on them and confiscated,” said police spokesperson, Constable Thabang Nkhumise.

“Further property that was found and confiscated included four stolen cellphones, two bank cards and a Dixon laptop.”

He said the duo was linked to another armed robbery case in Silverton.

On top of the 12-year sentences, Alusani and Mogashoa will never be permitted to own or carry a firearm after being declared unfit for possession.

“The Pretoria Central Saps welcomes the judgement handed down by the Pretoria magistrate’s court this week and we would further like to commend the bravery of our officers and patrollers,” said Station Commander, Brigadier Gibin Hlengane Mashaba.

“The community is urged to report crime and become the whistle-blowers of any wrongdoing to assist the police and also to remember they can do it anonymously. This will create safer communities and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
