Possible rain forecast for Pretoria as temperatures drop

It will be a cold start to the week as temperatures plunge, bringing possible rain to Pretoria on Sunday.

Pretoria residents are in for a cold start to June with the South African Weather Service (SAWS) forecasting rain before temperatures plunge from Monday, June 3.

“After a relatively dry and warmer-than-usual month of May, South Africans can expect the first significant drop in daytime temperatures over the coming days,” SAWS said in a statement on Friday.

“Rain showers and thundershowers [are] possible across most parts and even some snow over elevated areas.”

“This is a result of a developing cut-off low-pressure system (the northwards displacement of a low-pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere) over the western and southern parts of the country from Sunday into Monday (2 to 3 June).”

Cut-off low-pressure systems are associated with rainfall, snow, and strong winds.

Skies are expected to clear by the afternoon for clear skies at night.

Monday will have a high of 17 °C and a low of 7°C.

Rain is expected to stop by the end of Monday.

SAWS expects Tuesday to be the coldest day of the week, with a low of 4°C and a high of 16°C.
