Police officer injured in operation to combat spiking incidents

A police officer was injured when a rock was thrown off the bridge onto the vehicle while they were patrolling the R80.

An Akasia police officer was injured on Thursday when a rock was thrown off the bridge onto the vehicle while they were patrolling the R80.

According to GAC Risk Solutions, a combined operation took place on the N1 and N4 to combat the recent increase in spiking incidents.

“A SAPS Akasia member was injured using a rock that was thrown off the bridge onto the vehicle while they were patrolling the freeway on the R80 close to block XX.”

The operational teams also assisted two vehicles that were positively spiked

“Due to the fast and effective response times, the spikers did not have any time to carry out their attacks on the victims.”

Here are some tips from Alpha Security Forum for motorists if spiked:

  • Reduce speed, but don’t stop. Try to keep the vehicle momentum going as much as possible. Your life is more important than the vehicle.
  • Try to reach a safety spot or spot with lighting.
  • Share your location on the Spiking groups or any security group or forum.
  • Give a brief description via a voice note.
  • Keep updating briefly via voice notes.
  • If your car can’t go further, leave everything, but your phone and run and hide somewhere, make sure to mute your phone and dim your screen, try to keep moving if possible.
  • if you do get caught, lie down with arms out and all your possessions away from your body, and don’t engage with them.

“Help will come, the nation is on high alert with the spiking, the Metros, SAPS, Security Companies, and First Responders will come, just get the info out there timely,” Alpha Security Forum said.
