Photos: Icy cold winter wonderland in Pretoria
Look at these fantastic photos captured today - the coldest day of the year. What temperatures did you and your neighbors record in your area?

Pretoria residents woke up to an icy cold winter wonderland on Tuesday, and it is no wonder that today is the coldest morning of the year so far.
Many localities over the country’s interior dropped well below freezing, with widespread morning frost reported.
Widespread snow amounting to 20-50mm was reported in many parts of South Africa.
And the SA Weather Services warned that mountainous regions in the western parts of the Western Cape may see higher amounts of 70-100mm.
According to Gauteng Weather, temperatures in Pretoria have dropped to -2°C.

The VoxWeather Services shared some of the low temperatures recorded in South Africa:

According to acting Tshwane Emergency Department spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni, the SAWS continues to warn that “several cold fronts are expected to reach South Africa’s shores during the coming week.
“The first weather system of the series is an intense cold front that is expected to affect the western and central parts of the country from Sunday, 7 July 2024, and the eastern parts from Monday, 8 July 2024.“

He said this system is expected to bring about widespread and disruptive snowfall over the southern and western high ground, accompanied by damaging winds over the interior and the coastline, high seas along the coastal areas and very cold conditions over a significant part of the country.
“The public and small stock farmers are advised to take the necessary precautions ahead of the expected adverse weather conditions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their animals.
“With cold and windy conditions forecast over parts of Gauteng from the afternoon of Sunday, 07 July 2024, extending to Thursday, 11 July 2024. ”
Mnguni said the Tshwane EMS is calling on all its residents to keep warm but be safe this winter by observing the following safety precautions:
• If there is any fire danger exposure to dwellings, like shacks or house, vegetation or veld fires, dial the toll-free number 107 for emergencies
• Burning charcoal gives of deadly amounts of carbon monoxide, so do not leave it in the house when sleeping
• Never use fuels that are not designed for your heating unit
• Improper use of space heaters (izimbawula, braziers and electric, gas and paraffin heaters, among others) should be avoided
• Unapproved controlled burning must never be carried out (no controlled burning will be approved during this period)
