Police probe incident ending in double shooting

The shooting happened at a shopping centre on Thursday at 09:30.

Police are investigating a murder after a woman was shot dead before the gunman allegedly turned the gun on himself on Thursday, August 1 at a shopping centre in Irene.

The shooting happened at about 09:30.

A source at the scene said that the gunman was a PRSS security guard at the centre, while the woman was identified as Frieda Amese, a mother of two.

Amese was a cleaning supervisor for Afri-Services and was described as a diligent and caring person and a mentor to others at the company.

Tshwane SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said that the motive for the shooting was still unclear.

According to a police report, the gunman and Amese were involved in an altercation just before the shooting.

“He pulled out his firearm and shot the woman.”

Law enforcement and paramedics on the scene.

The gunman then chased after another man who managed to escape to alert another security guard.

“He turned the firearm on to himself and committed suicide.”

Van Dyk said that an inquest docket and murder docket were under investigation.

Emergency services non-profit Cert-SA confirmed that two people were killed in the incident at Byls Bridge Promenade shopping centre in Centurion.

“Upon arrival, a man was found fatally shot in the parking lot.

“Further assessment revealed that a woman was also fatally shot at her workplace inside a shop in the mall.”

PRSS spokesperson Poena Jansen van Rensburg said that they were investigating the shooting.

He said they could not comment until the investigation was concluded.

“We also give full assistance to SAPS in their investigation.

“Our condolences towards the family of the deceased individuals,” said Jansen van Rensburg.
