Repairs continue as underground cable fault leaves east areas powerless for three days
According to Ward 81 councillor Andrew Lesch, if all goes according to plan, full power restoration is not expected before tomorrow morning.
Tshwane is reassuring residents it is working to restore power to the Erasmuskloof area and surroundings affected by the outage due to a cable fault.
The fault led to a trip on several panels on Sunday, August 11 and the outage left certain residents in Ward 81 without power for three days.
The ward councillor Andrew Lesch said the full restoration of power was not expected until the morning of Wednesday, August 14.
He said the initial power failure on Sunday was caused by an underground cable fault discovered after a difficult excavation process due to the cable’s proximity to a large tree with extensive roots.
“While power was restored to most areas on Sunday, the Castle Walk area remained in the dark, “ he said.
Lesch said the electricity team worked to repair the damaged cable and minor faults on Monday, but their efforts were short-lived.
“Just minutes after power was restored, the system tripped again, affecting Erasmuskloof Ext 3 and 4.”
He said investigations revealed equipment failure at one of the substations, necessitating replacement.
Lesch explained that electricians are working tirelessly to restore power as soon as possible.
“However, the damage requires replacement of equipment, pushing full restoration to tomorrow morning.”
Tshwane said on its social media pages that a team was arranging all resources and collecting all materials required to complete the job for the Castle Walk Sub.
“The system operator and depot teams are currently still on site attending the Erasmuskloof MV area outage. No estimated time for restoration yet.”
