Women escape routine on Wolwespruit wellness walk

Femina Wellness aims to empower women through holistic practices and community support.

The Wolwespruit bike and trail park came alive on Sunday when Ladies 40+ Travel & Events hosted a wellness walk for middle-aged women.

The club hosted the Femina Wellness and Free Spirit Living Nature Walk to encourage ladies aged 40 and older to get active and connect with others who share similar interests.

It was a perfect journey where the women came together to celebrate, improve their wellness, enjoy nature, make meaningful friendships and connect.

The story of Femina Wellness is one of resilience and empowerment, sparked by founder Rene Franke’s journey through loss and recovery.

After losing her 43-year-old sister to lymphatic cancer and suffering a stroke just nine months later, Franke faced significant health challenges. Choosing to reject chronic medication, she sought the guidance of a naturopath and embarked on a transformative six-month journey focused on lifestyle changes, dietary specifications and natural medicine.

This experience not only aided her recovery but also ignited a passion for holistic health, motivating her to create a supportive community for women facing similar challenges.

Franke said recognising that many of her friends in their 40s were battling menopause symptoms, Rene founded Femina Wellness in 2023.

The organisation aims to empower women through holistic practices and community support.

In 2024, Franke teamed up with Daphne Smit from Free Spirit Living to launch Ladies 40+ Travel & Events in Pretoria, offering an inclusive space for women to connect and engage in various activities.

The Ladies 40+ Travel & Events is designed for flexibility, allowing members to participate in as many events as they like without commitment.

Franke said the club began with nature walks, incorporating three wellness pillars: physical wellness through activity, environmental wellness by being in nature and social wellness by fostering friendships.

She said participating in the nature walk provides numerous benefits, such as safety in numbers, exclusive invitations, membership discounts, and opportunities to escape routine and create life balance.

“Members are encouraged to develop new friendships, engage in lifelong learning, and expand their worldview, all while promoting healthy living and creativity.”

These groups enjoy tailored events and opportunities, and occasionally, all members come together for special celebrations of community spirit.

Participant Chante Muller said it was her first time joining the nature walk.

“I enjoyed it a lot and got the opportunity to meet new people.”
