Underprivileged children in north equipped with the right tools to start school

A stationary drive aimed at helping underprivileged children in the north of Pretoria has made an important impact on more than 100 learners.
With the rising costs of essential items, many families find it increasingly difficult to afford school supplies, turning basic stationery into a luxury.
However, thanks to generous donations from different stakeholders, more than 132 children were provided with the tools they needed to start the school year on the right foot.
According to Ward 2 councillor Quentin Meyer, for many families, purchasing basic school supplies such as notebooks, pens, and calculators has become a financial challenge they cannot meet.
By addressing this issue, the drive not only gave children the practical tools they needed for learning, but also a sense of hope and optimism for the year.
“The campaign was not just about giving stationery, it was about offering a lifeline to families who struggle to provide the basics for their children.
“The smiles and gratitude we witnessed prove just how important such support is in our community.”
The success of the drive was made possible through teamwork and dedication.
Residents were especially appreciative of the initiative.
Hanna Bredenkamp shared: “I didn’t know how I was going to afford my children’s school supplies this year.
“This stationery drive has taken a huge weight off my shoulders, and I’m also grateful to everyone involved. My children are excited to go back to school.”
Another resident, Lientjie Maincoon, echoed similar sentiments.
“It’s been a tough year for many of us, and something as simple as buying stationery was becoming impossible,” Maincoon said.
“This drive has restored our hope. Seeing the community come together like this shows we are not alone in our struggles.”
Volunteers and the councillor worked tirelessly to ensure that the children and families who attended left with essential supplies and renewed enthusiasm for the school year.
“We couldn’t have achieved this without our sponsor and the tireless work of our volunteers.
“This initiative was a true example of community spirit, and it is moments like these that show what we can achieve when we come together,” said Meyer.
Through the community’s collective efforts, the children in Ward 2 now have the tools to succeed, and their families have one less worry on their shoulders as the new school year begins.
Meyer extended a heartfelt thanks to everyone involved and highlighted the impact that even small acts of generosity can have on the lives of those who need it most.
“Together, we are building a brighter future. These tools will ensure that the children are equipped at their respective schools.”
