Equestria CUP project gains momentum
Clean-up operations, security projects and fixing up of potholes are part of the plan of a group of citizens committed to make Equestria safer and cleaner.
Equestria residents filled a further 16 potholes, including 4 large patch repairs, at the weekend, making the full 950m of Farm Road in the East suburb pothole free.
To councillor Jacqui Uys and her DA team, residents and companies in the area and the members of the Equestria Joint Economic Area (Ejea), the activity may become a more regular and sustainable part of their area improvement.
Ejea is a platform created for the long-term well-being, physical environment and safety of the Equestria community.
Wade Twilley, project leader of Ejea, said the worst stretch of the road for residents to drive is the 250m between Glen Avenue and Libertas Avenue.
The metro added to the restoration by filling 12 potholes between Simon Vermooten Road and Glen Avenue.
Residents stopped by to hand over some refreshments to the team. Several financial contributors made the day possible as well as the Roadsaver Group who partnered with the teams covering the potholes to make the day a success.
“We will keep monitoring the full length of Farm Road and begin expanding operations to surrounding roads as monthly financial support for the Ejea grows,” said Twilley.
The official kick-off project of the organisation took place in September 2024 after the Community Upliftment Project Agreement (CUP) was finalised with the metro. This now allows the organisation to improve municipal infrastructure.
Members of the organisation have coordinated more than ten voluntary environmental projects and approximately 30 voluntary security operations, resulting in about 40 area improvement or security operations.
