According to a message sent out by the school, the situation was unsafe.

“Dear Parents/Guardians

“We would like to inform you that the school gates are currently locked by unknown persons, and the situation is unsafe. We take the safety of our learners and staff very seriously and are already working with the relevant authorities to resolve the matter urgently.

“We request that parents please refrain from coming to the school grounds until further notice. We will keep you informed of any developments as soon as possible.

“Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time.”

Meanwhile, Ward 2 councillor Quentin Meyer has urged residents to stay safe and remain calm.

“Residents are burning tyres at Laerskool Danie Malan. The SAPS is on its way, and Maximum Security, along with other security companies, is already on the scene to support the school and ensure safety.

“Please stay safe and remain calm—help is already being provided.”
