Expected water interruption in Tyger Valley on Wednesday
The metro’s water and sanitation department will be working on the water valves in the area.
The Tyger Valley area in the east of Pretoria might experience water supply disruptions on Wednesday, February 12 due to planned maintenance work on water valves.
Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the metro’s water and sanitation department would carry out the maintenance.
He said the essential work will last for eight hours, from 08:00 until 16:00.
“Unfortunately the work will result in a water supply interruption in all extensions of Tyger Valley,” he said.
“Tshwane apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be caused due to the above-mentioned maintenance.”
Mashigo urged locals to make the following water-conservation measures part of their normal lifestyle:
– Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
– Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.
– Do not fill swimming pools.
Mashigo also urged residents to keep on using grey water to water gardens and flush toilets.
“Residents should report water leaks, burst pipes and all incidents where water is wasted,” stated Mashigo.
He said where possible, water-saving devices should be installed.
Locals are encouraged to make water conservation part of their everyday lives by following these water-saving tips:
– Install a low-flow shower head and tap aerators where possible.
– Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
– Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.
– Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
– Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.
– Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.
– Take a short shower rather than a bath.
– Close a running tap while brushing your teeth or shaving.
– Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
