Tip-off leads police to stripped SUV in Winterveldt
Police received information that individuals were stripping a vehicle and dismantling its parts for possible illegal resale or other criminal uses.
A stolen vehicle that had been stripped for parts was discovered in Winterveldt in the north of Pretoria, according to police
Police recovered the Toyota Fortuner on February 11 around 17:20 when District Online Intervention Unit officers acted on a tip-off.
The police unit, tasked with preventing and investigating online robberies, was patrolling in Winterveldt when it received intelligence about suspicious activity in Slovoville.
According to police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk, individuals were stripping a vehicle for possible illegal resale or other criminal uses.
He said when officers arrived at the given location, they discovered a white Toyota Fortuner with its doors open, already stripped of various components.
“A preliminary investigation confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Rustenburg earlier this month.
Police immediately summoned the Local Criminal Record Centre to assist with crime scene management and collect further evidence that could help identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the stripping operation,” said Van Dyk.
He said while no arrest has been made yet, the investigation is ongoing.
Tshwane District Commissioner Major-General Samuel Thine emphasised the importance of police officers in fighting crimes involving stolen vehicles.
