500 beneficiaries to receive power in The Orchards

The electrification project in The Orchards Ext 110, Ward 4, in the north of Pretoria, is making strides in expanding electricity access to about 500 beneficiaries.
According to MMC for Utility Services Frans Boshielo the project was aimed at providing safe, reliable power and reducing illegal connections in the area.
Boshielo said the metro has identified 4 000 beneficiaries in the area who are without electricity.
He said this electrification project will be implemented in multiple financial phases to address this need.
The project involves the construction of low-and medium-voltage electrical network infrastructure, as well as individual consumer connections.
“These upgrades will enhance power reliability in the community, ensuring that residents have access to a more stable electricity supply.
“The electrification initiative also contributes to the local economy as the project supports employment through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), while local small enterprises are being engaged to foster skills development in the community.”
Boshielo said the initiative is not just about electrification; it’s about empowering local residents with job opportunities and fostering long-term skills development through local enterprise partnerships.
The Orchards Ext 110 project aligns with two of the metro’s strategic priorities which are to strengthen the electrical grid, water infrastructure, and revenue security.
It also aims to enhance safety, security, and emergency services through the reduction of illegal connections and improvement of service delivery.
While the delays have caused some setbacks, Boshielo reiterated that the multi-phase financial approach will allow for the gradual rollout of the project.
