Power has been restored to areas supplied by the Njala Infeed Substation, which experienced an explosion on Tuesday evening, leaving many residents across Pretoria in the dark.

The City of Tshwane urged residents still affected by power outages to log a call.

“Our emergency services teams have extinguished the fire at Njala Substation, which caused widespread outages in Pretoria East,” the City stated. “While teams are actively addressing outages, repairs are delayed due to inclement weather, and restoration time remains unknown.”

Early this morning, officials from the City’s energy and electricity department were on-site assessing the extent of the damage.

The following substations remain affected:

1. Wapadrand
2. Wingate

During efforts to switch on the Wapadrand Substation, unexpected damage to the T4 occurred.

“The City’s technicians will replace the T4 to ensure full restoration for the remaining areas,” they added. “We apologize for the inconvenience caused to customers still without power. Currently, we cannot provide an estimated time of restoration.”
