Faerie Glen residents blame Tshwane for shoddy pothole maintenance
Residents on Stonewall Road having to nagivate through potholes are are at their wits’ end.
A stretch of road in Faerie Glen has residents fuming after the recent rains aggravated the potholes.
According to residents in Faerie Glen, on Stonewall Road, they have to navigate through potholes which has left them at their wits’ end.
The residents claimed that the metro filled the potholes in January but the road has become worse due to rain and the metro using cheap materials during repairs.
Resident, Len Swart said driving on Stonewall Road is a disaster and hazard for him and his family.
“The situation is unbearable because this can cause an accident or even death as the potholes are big.”
Swart said the pothole near the traffic cycle has blocked the water drainage.
“This is not ideal as you have to drive on the oncoming lane to avoid the big hole.”
Swart said the biggest pothole on the Stonewall Road was reported to Tshwane in January and was fixed, however two days later, it had washed away and was worse.
“Driving on this road is extremely dangerous, especially at night if you are not familiar with the area.”
Swart said this is also costing motorists, as their car tyres and rims are damaged by the potholes.
“We have reported this countless times, but the road is still the same and even worse after the recent rains.”
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said as soon as the required material and equipment are available, the road will be attended to.
He said the portion of the Stonewall Road wasn’t damaged because of the material used, it is a junction box that opens when water pressure in the pipe increases.
“It is suspected that there is a water leakage caused by a junction box. The team will investigate with a view to conducting the necessary repairs.”
