Eskom implements load reduction in northern parts of Pretoria
This step is meant to prevent local infrastructure damage and transformer overloads.
Eskom has implemented load reduction measures in Tshwane to safeguard the electricity distribution network.
This initiative aims to prevent transformer overloads caused by illegal connections and electricity theft, which have been identified as major contributors to infrastructure strain.
Load reduction differs from load-shedding. While load-shedding involves scheduled power outages due to insufficient national grid capacity, load reduction is a targeted approach to prevent local infrastructure damage.
According to Eskom spokesperson Amanda Qithi, load reduction will be implemented during peak demand periods, from 05:00 to 09:00 and 17:00 to 20:00 to protect transformers and mini-substations from overloading.
Affected areas in Tshwane include:
– Ga-Rankuwa units 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 16, 17, 20, 23, 25
– Ga-Rankuwa parts 4 SP and NU
– Mabopane blocks B, C, D, U, X, S, M, EW and CV
– Winterveldt wards 2, 6, 12, 13
– Mabopane U, R, Ext 18, Part 19 SP
– Winterveldt Ext 3, wards 11 and 9
– Ga-Rankuwa View Ext 1
– Hebron, Soshanguve Ext 1
– Kopanong Ext 1.
