Kiddies Aqua opens new Menlo Park branch
Other branches to open soon include Windhoek (Namibia), Roodeplaat and Benoni.
Kiddies Aqua invites residents to join them this Monday, May 26, for the opening of their new Menlo Park branch.
For over 30 years, the Kiddies Aqua Swimming Academy has emphasised the importance of water safety and offering specialised programmes to prevent drowning incidents among children.
Founded in 1993 by Lizette and Arrie Botha, the academy was originally based in former Nelspruit (now Mbombela) before moving to Pretoria.
Today, they have seven branches in Pretoria and other areas such as Alberton, Centurion, Cape Town, Roodepoort, Namibia (Otjiwarongo) and most recently in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Other branches to open soon are Windhoek (Namibia), Roodeplaat and Benoni.
The Menlo Park branch is owned by franchisees Andries and Inette Ferreira. Andries is a former Blue Bulls rugby player.
The academy offers programmes for infants, toddlers, children, and adults and special needs kids. They specialise in self rescue and water safety programs for infants to float independently on their backs without any assistance.
Kiddies Aqua has collaborated with organisations like Tuks Swimming, Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, African Children Aquatic Foundation and World Swimming Coaches Association to enhance aquatic education.
As Arrie puts it, “It’s about the babies. We’re not teaching kids how to be rescued, we’re teaching them how to rescue themselves”.
Kiddies Aqua qualifies 2-5 babies daily in their Self-Rescue Water Safety Programme.
The programme teaches infants, also known as “Baby floating”, to float independently for at least 15 minutes.
Over her career, Lizette has taught more than 12 500 babies essential water safety skills and has helped 23 000 children and adults learn to swim.
Lizette and her franchisees at the various branches work with babies one-on-one over three to four months, helping them from as young as six months through to 24 months to develop this life-saving skill.
