Ward councillor wants more road signs after truck overturns
Trucks often crash at the Eeufees off-ramp, and it is also a popular spot for hijackers, smash-and-grabs and CIT heists.
The Eeufees Road off-ramp needs more road signs to alert drivers after a truck recently lost control, tipped over and hit several vehicles, according to Ward 1 councillor Leon Kruyshaar.
The Eeufees Road off-ramp is infamously known as a popular spot for truck crash incidents, and the accident on May 26 did little to quell that narrative.
“Unfortunately, this truck driver here, he’s still alive luckily, but the truck tipped over, it actually rolled over. Several vehicles were damaged as he came down here; he was smashing through vehicles. I think he tried to avoid hitting as many vehicles as he could, so kudos to him, but he himself is injured,” Kruyshaar said.
Kruyshaar said he has seen far too many of these kinds of accidents and believes more are to come.
“But as you can see here, the barriers are non-existent due to all the accidents, this isn’t the first one, and it won’t be the last one if we don’t take action now. They need to put up some signage to tell these heavily loaded vehicles to be careful when coming down here,” the ward councillor said.
“As you can see, it’s a steep embankment, and that’s why they lose control, their brakes fail, and smash cars; smash the barriers. The barrier has been smashed so many times, I don’t think the city wants to replace it,” he said.
The truck was loaded with rubble, which spilt onto the road when it flipped over.
In December 2024, three men died in a truck accident on the very same road.
