Residents across Regions 2, 3, and 6 of Tshwane have been left without, water supply due to Rand Water’s planned infrastructure maintenance.

The Tshwane Metro said the water outage was due to Rand Water’s maintenance on key supply lines, which began on May 29 and is expected to last until June 2.

It said to mitigate the challenges suffered due to the maintenance work, water tankers were deployed to affected areas to ensure that residents could access basic water services during this period.

It said water tankers were dispatched daily with set schedules to reach critical areas, including clinics, schools, and elderly care centres.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said given the scope of maintenance work, the tankers would operate between 07:00 and 22:00 until supply is restored.

Mashigo said in Regions 3 and 6, water tankers are provided to the following areas:

-Hazeldean Square
-Hazel Meadows Estate gate
-Lombardy Meander
-Silveroaks Centre
-Planet Fitness Olympus
-Leander Road
-Broadwalk Sheds
-Wilds Clubhouse
-Woodhill Estate
-Isie Smuts/Grunburger Streets
-Waterkloof Dog Park
-Cnr of Matroosberg Road and Wild Avenue
-Old Farm Shopping Centre
-Cnr Van Niekerk/Rood, Meyerspark Bowling Club
-33 Grace Ave, Murrayfield Laerskool, Skuikrans

Ward 101 councillor Malcolm de Klerk added that the political party had organised community tanks and private water donations in various affected wards.

“At the moment, [in] Silverlakes, The Sheer, Paramount Estates, Olympus and Moreleta Park, we have provided water. Typically, it’s five to ten cupid metres tankers. It’s for the vulnerable and the community has taken this initiative well,” he said.

He said there are no areas that they are prioritising except for the vulnerable. “We have got community responders that are either providing borehole water or carrying water for our vulnerable residents. “We have also partnered up with businesses and churches to provide community assistance with bulk water points.”

The Metro apologises for the inconvenience that may be encountered as a result of the above-mentioned maintenance work.
