Clean-up inspires eco action in Saulsville
Fifty volunteers joined forces to remove 200 bags of plastic waste from the Moganwe River as part of Plastic Free July 2026.
As part of the Plastic Free July Campaign, Soulbent Project NPO organised a clean-up at the Moganwe River on July 20 in Saulsville.
Fifty volunteers collected about 200 plastic bags of waste in an effort to reduce pollution and promote environmental protection.
Plastic Free July is a global movement that encourages individuals and communities to refuse single-use plastics and adopt sustainable lifestyles.
Soulbent Project NPO CEO Mashudu Makhado said the initiative reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the environment through meaningful community action.
He added that the organisation’s volunteers united to remove plastic waste and other litter polluting the Moganwe River, describing every bag of waste collected as a step towards cleaner rivers, healthier ecosystems and a safer future.
“This initiative is more than a clean-up. It is a call for every resident, business and organisation to take responsibility for reducing plastic pollution. Environmental protection begins with simple daily choices and together we can create lasting change,” said Makhado.
He thanked the volunteers, partners and community members who supported the initiative.
“I extend my sincere appreciation to all our volunteers, partners and community members who continue to support Soulbent Project NPO’s environmental programmes. Your dedication proves that when communities work together, we can restore and protect the places we call home,” he said.
He encouraged people to continue making environmentally responsible choices beyond Plastic Free July.
“Let Plastic Free July inspire us to make sustainable choices every day, not only in July but throughout the year. Together, we can build cleaner communities, healthier rivers and a greener South Africa,” he concluded.
