Police need help locating missing 34-year-old patient
The person was last seen at the Tshwane District Hospital last Thursday and was captured on CCTV.
The Pretoria Central Police are asking for the community’s help in locating Keith Ngobeni, a 34-year-old man who has not been seen since July 23.
Ngobeni was last seen between 03:00 and 04:00 at the Tshwane District Hospital, where he was receiving medical attention.
Station spokesperson Sergeant Thabang Nkhumise says that after receiving medication, Ngobeni was not seen again after a trip to the bathroom.
“According to the report handed to the police, the gentleman was admitted at Tshwane District Hospital; the nurse stated that he was given his medication, then later went to bed, and [later] asked to go to the toilet.
“He did come back to the ward, but a few minutes after, while the nurse in charge was doing a routine check-up, [and] he was not in his bed.
“Security was quickly alerted, a search was conducted with no success, and steps were taken to inform all the necessary stakeholders. On the CCTV footage, he is seen wearing his clothes and leaving,” Nkhumise said.
Ngobeni was last seen on security footage wearing a black hoodie, a green jacket, black trousers, and black shoes, carrying a black plastic bag, and leaving the hospital. He is described as being about 1.7m tall and weighing around 50kg.
Nkhumise reminds the public that no waiting period is required to report a missing person, and that time is of the essence in these cases.
“The community should always note that there is no waiting period to report a missing person in South Africa. You must report the disappearance at your nearest police station immediately… and provide a recent photograph and description. Further, give the necessary information that might assist the police to be on the lookout. We really appreciate the family for being proactive and reporting the matter as soon as possible,” Nkhumise said.
