The TMPD arrested 73 motorists during a successful series of high-density road policing operations carried out across the city during July 24–27.
The operation focused on crucial aspects of road safety such as drunk driving, pedestrian safety, public transport, and heavy motor vehicle compliance.
TMPD spokesperson Colonel Isaac Mahamba said the operations were conducted by regional policing members and specialised units in areas including Mabopane, Akasia, Sinoville, Pretoria West, Centurion, Mamelodi, and Bronkhorstspruit.

“The key highlights of this weekend’s operations include the arrest of 73 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol, 33 pedestrians arrested on highways… and 30 public transport vehicles impounded for violating the National Land Transport Act, 2009,” he said.
Mahamba said in addition, 94 commercial heavy motor vehicles were inspected for load and roadworthiness compliance at TMPD weighbridges and with the use of the mobile vehicle testing service truck, and more than 333 AARTO infringement notices were issued to motorists in violation of the National Road Traffic Act, 1996.

“The Chief of Police, Commissioner Yvonne Faro and the entire TMPD management applaud the dedication and hard work of the officers involved,” added Mahamba.
He stated that the management emphasises the departmental position of enforcing the law without leniency and urges all road users to comply with regulations to avoid facing harsh consequences.
