Akasia residents rally to spruce up police station
Volunteers, patrollers and local businesses worked together to clean Akasia Police Station, promoting community pride and stronger partnerships with police.
Community spirit was on full display on July 25 as members of the Akasia Community Police Forum (CPF), community patrollers and local supporters came together to clean the Akasia Police Station.
The clean-up initiative aims to reinforce the importance of collaboration in creating a safe and welcoming environment for both police officers and residents.
Community patrollers and CPF executive committee members dedicated their time and effort to improving the surroundings of the police station.
Volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure that the facility where police officers serve the public remains clean, healthy and presentable.
The initiative also received valuable support from local businesses and residents.
Management from Pick n Pay at Wonderpark Shopping Centre provided lunch and refreshments for the volunteers after a morning of hard work, and the shopping centre donated cleaning materials.
Deputy Chairperson of the Akasia CPF, Paulina Seboloki, expressed her appreciation to everyone who played a role in the campaign.
“On behalf of the CPF, I wish to thank the community patrollers of Sectors 1, 2 and 3, together with our executive committee members, for embracing the spirit of community service,” said Seboloki.
“They helped clean the local police station, ensuring that both SAPS members and the community they serve have a clean and healthy environment.”
She also acknowledged the businesses and individuals whose generosity made the initiative possible.
“The continued support and commitment of everyone who contributed and made sure that the cleaning campaign was a success is highly appreciated. Forward we go against crime. Together we will win,” she said.
Seboloki extended special thanks to Wonderpark Shopping Centre management for donating cleaning supplies, saying their contribution demonstrated a commitment to supporting the police and the wider community beyond the clean-up day itself.
Ward 4 Committee member and Sector 2 Convenor, Sello Mfati, also participated in the initiative, remaining with the volunteers until the work was completed.
Seboloki said while the campaign focused on improving the appearance and cleanliness of the police station, organisers said it also highlighted the strong partnerships that exist between residents, businesses, community structures and the SAPS.
The Akasia CPF believes initiatives such as these strengthen trust between the police and the communities they serve while encouraging residents to take ownership of shared public spaces.
