More than 100 Ga-Rankuwa residents received warm meals and clothing during a recent outreach initiative led by learners and educators from LEAP Six Ga-Rankuwa, reflecting the school’s ongoing commitment to community service.

The initiative saw 45 learners and six educators prepare and serve soup and bread while also distributing donated clothing to vulnerable community members.

The outreach focused on areas where the school has identified ongoing needs through its close ties with the local community.

According to the fundraising, media and Partnership Manager, Nicole Fisher, community service is deeply embedded in the school’s culture and extends far beyond a single campaign or event.

“Social development is embedded in every LEAP school, and our learners are continuously encouraged to serve and uplift the communities they come from,” said Fisher.

She explained that the school regularly works alongside learners, staff, parents and guardians to make a meaningful difference in the communities they serve.

One of the outreach points included a nearby public hospital where many residents arrive in the early hours of the morning without access to food.

The school responded by providing warm soup and bread to those waiting for medical care.

LEAP Six also continued its long-standing support of the Zone 14 community, where it has partnered with a local day care centre for more than three years.

Learners played a central role throughout the project. Guided by the school’s kitchen staff, they helped prepare the soup, sort donated clothing according to size and assemble food parcels, including parcels for fellow learners in need.

Many of the clothing items and donations came directly from learners, parents, guardians and staff, highlighting a collective effort to support those facing hardship.

The initiative also received valuable support from corporate partners Lewis Group, Skybound Capital and Greenbox, whose contributions helped extend the reach of the programme.

Fisher believes these experiences help shape compassionate young leaders.

“It is important for our young people to understand that making a difference does not always require abundance. Even small acts of kindness can have a meaningful impact.

“These experiences help shape compassionate, socially conscious individuals who are committed to uplifting others,” she said.

One of the most memorable moments for organisers was witnessing the overwhelming appreciation shown by beneficiaries.

“Seeing people of all ages, young and old, come together, share a meal, and smile despite their circumstances was deeply moving. It was a reminder of the power of simple acts of care and connection.”

LEAP Six continues to welcome partnerships with businesses, organisations and individuals willing to support its ongoing community programmes.

Current needs include sports equipment, library development, drawing kits, knitting and bedding materials, sheltered Life Orientation spaces and covered parking for staff.

Fisher said the school remains committed to serving the community throughout the year, with learners continuing to participate in outreach projects that strengthen both their leadership skills and their sense of social responsibility while bringing hope to those who need it most.
