Garsfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF) is urging residents to join crime prevention initiatives as criminal activity increases during the festive season.
The CPF revealed that criminal activity increases every December, making community involvement critical.
CPF chairperson Aris Ruyter called on residents to play a more active role in community safety and become additional volunteer patrollers.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns about crime and the need for increased visibility on the streets, particularly at night.
Ruyter said the CPF is not only about attending meetings.
“We need residents who are willing to become additional eyes and ears in their communities,• he said.
He said residents can participate by joining community patrols, reporting suspicious activity, sharing information, or staying alert to events on their street.
Ruyter said residents do not need any special skills or experience to get involved.
“The more residents we have participating, the greater our visibility becomes and the more effectively we can support SAPS, TMPD, and our security partners on the ground.”
He said anyone living within the Garsfontein SAPS precinct who would like to join can visit gfcpf.co.za or WhatsApp him directly on 083 652 6774.
“As chairperson of the Garsfontein CPF, I can put residents in contact with the correct sector chairperson and help them get involved in their specific area.”
He added that residents living outside the precinct are also welcome to contact him for assistance in connecting with their local CPF structures.
“This isn’t only a Garsfontein issue. Across Pretoria East we need communities to work together and build a stronger presence. Criminals move across precinct and suburb boundaries, so our co-operation needs to do the same,” he explained.
Ruyter said we need more people, more vehicles and, most importantly, more eyes and ears.
“The message to residents is simple: don’t wait until crime reaches your home or your street before getting involved. If each community contributes a little, collectively we can make a very big difference and push back against crime across Pretoria East.”
Sectors and covered areas in Garsfontein CPF include Sector 1: Lynnwood Manor, parts of Die Wilgers / Wilgers (and surrounding areas like Lynnwood Ridge, Lynn-De-Grace, Brummeria, Scientia, and Murrayfield South, as outlined by the Garsfontein CPF Sectors); Sector 2: Faerie Glen and parts of Olympus (also including Wapadrand); Sector 3: Garsfontein and Pretorius Park; Sector 4A: Moreleta Park and Plastic View; Sector 4B: Constantia Park, Erasmusrand and Waterkloof Glen.
