Police nab four in Ga-Rankuwa drug bust

Illicit pharmaceuticals and illegal substances worth R10 000 were seized during a targeted metro police blitz, prompting officials to call on residents to report local dealing networks.

Four men aged 25 to 40 were arrested in Ga-Rankuwa on Friday, October 2, after the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) Drug Unit conducted a targeted operation against suspected drug activity in the area.

TMPD spokesperson Colonel Isaac Mahamba said officers caught the suspects with illegal drugs and medicines valued at an estimated R10 000.

“The operation forms part of our ongoing efforts to disrupt the distribution of illegal drugs and ensure that those involved are brought before the law,” said Mahamba.

The four suspects face charges of drug possession and dealing, as well as contravening the Medicines and Related Substances Act, following their detention at a local police station.

Community support vital

Mahamba said targeted operations such as these remained important in addressing drug-related activity and protecting communities.

The four suspects are expected to appear in court to face the charges.

The TMPD has urged residents to assist law enforcement agencies by reporting suspected drug-related activities in their communities.

Residents can report suspected criminal activity to their nearest police station or through official TMPD communication channels.

The department said community co-operation remains an important part of efforts to identify and disrupt drug networks operating in Tshwane.

The operation comes as law enforcement agencies continue to focus on drug-related offences and other criminal activities affecting communities across the city.
