Two accomplices remain at large after fleeing the scene of a stolen vehicle in Winterveldt on Tuesday, October 6.
This comes as a police operation ended in a shoot-out and the arrest of a man who allegedly hijacked a Ford Ranger.
The Loate and Rietgat SAPS were conducting crime-prevention patrols along Jakkies Road at about 13:00 when they received a lookout for a white Ford Ranger allegedly hijacked via an online marketplace scam.
According to police, officers spotted a vehicle matching the description near Rapetswa Stand in Winterveldt.
The three occupants allegedly noticed the police vehicle approaching from the opposite direction, stopped the Ford Ranger, and fled on foot.
Police officers pursued the suspects, but the chase soon escalated into an exchange of gunfire after one of the suspects allegedly fired shots at the officers.
Tshwane police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk said one suspect was wounded during the shoot-out.
“One suspect was wounded in the left upper knee during the exchange of gunfire and was arrested a short distance from the scene,” said Van Dyk.
He said police allegedly found a black pistol concealed on the suspect during a search.
“The injured suspect was taken to a medical facility for treatment under police guard.
“Officers also searched the surrounding area for the two remaining suspects, but they could not be located,” said Van Dyk.

The arrested suspect is facing charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
He is expected to appear in court once he has been medically cleared.
Tshwane District Commissioner Major General Samuel Thine commended police officers for their vigilance and swift response, which led to the recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of one suspect.
