NGO brings Kool to school

Local NGO Kool 2B South African visited Saint Ann primary school in Atteridgeville to ring in the spring-summer season and claim a headstart in Heritage Day celebrations.

The organisation and learners took part in a flag parade march and planted the first Kool 2B South African excellence tree in remembrance of the day and in honour of South African patriots.
President and founder of Kool 2B South African Khaya “Kool” Seoketsa said he firmly believes that Heritage Day is losing its significance. To reclaim it, more emphasis should be returned to its cultural and historical importance rather than solely celebrating it as Braai Day.
“Learners were then taught the importance of Heritage Month and not reducing National Heritage Day to just Braai Day. This day was brought by the sacrifices of our freedom liberators and should be celebrated with the respect it deserves. Yes, you may braai but braaiing should not be the epicentre in celebrating the day,” said Seoketsa
Kool 2B South African was launched on July 29 at Freedom Park, Salvokop to commemorate Mandela month. It had been in the works since August 2009 in Mahikeng.
Kool 2B South African aims to bring the focus of South Africans back to national pride by honouring military veterans, heritage sites and fellow freedom fighters. The organisation believes it’s important to teach learners the history of the country and the people who fought for it.
“There’s a lack of appreciation for the freedom fighters who sacrificed for their freedom by doing what is right in taking South Africa forward, a lack of understanding of the role of our national symbols and a total disrespect for our environment and animals,” continued Seoketsa.
The NGO currently has 14 volunteers and has worked with the likes of Pheli FM, NYDA, department of education, Tshwane metro South District and department of forestry, fisheries and environment in various initiatives.
Kool 2B South African envisions a capital city that is a worldwide leader in fashion, arts, hospitality, beauty, entrepreneurship, travel, technology, innovation and design through restoring love, pride and hope among South Africans.
The NGO appeals for donors to contact it regarding its upcoming initiatives.
“Learn to appreciate those that fought for your freedom, do your utmost best in loving our capital city and country, take care of our environment and love and care of our animals,” concluded Seoketsa.
