Sundowns, Nedbank donate sports facility to Soshanguve school

Things are looking up for Soshanguve South secondary school.

Mamelodi Sundowns, Department of Sports, Arts & Culture and Nedbank Sport handed over a brand new multi-purpose sports facility to the school this past week.

Sundowns chair Tlhopie Motsepe said the sports facility represents a dream of possibilities.

Motsepe said the opportunity for the winner of the the Nedbank Ke Yona Cup to nominate a school to benefit from the charity wing of the tournament made it special.

“When we lift this cup as champions, we get the opportunity to lift our community as well,” he said.

He thanked the sports trust for allowing them to participate in a special initiative that aligns with what the football club is doing, reaching into the community and touching the lives of children.

“I would like to thank Nedbank for another season of knockout football and Marumo Gallants, who led us to the finals after putting on a good fight,” he said.

Motsepe said school sport is important and that many of the players bore testament to the importance of school sport, not just for growing healthy kids but also for developing the country’s future sports stars.

“School sport is the future of our football, and netball as well,” he said.

He added that he hopes that the school would protect, use the donated facility to nurture, support and give hope to the learners and the community.

“As a secret request we ask that you just invite us back so that we can have a wonderful friendly on this wonderful sports facility,” he said.
