Man sentenced to three years imprisonment for burglary, theft

The investigating officer Sergeant Malesela Kganyago linked the suspect to three other cases in Majaneng village.

A man recently convicted on four counts of housebreaking and theft has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Elias Molekwa (34) appeared in the Moretele magistrate’s court last month following his arrest in September 2018.

Molekwa had been accused of housebreaking and theft in Temba, north of Pretoria a month earlier.

Temba police communication officer Sergeant Herman Moremi said Molekwa broke into the house during the day while the homeowner was at work.

“The 54-year-old teacher came back home and found the door forcefully opened and her property stolen, including a laptop, two pairs of tekkies, a belt and a bag,” said Moremi.

Moremi added that when the homeowner asked her neighbours if they saw anything suspicious, they identified Molekwa as a suspect.

“She went out to search for him, found him and the stolen items were recovered.

“They took him to the police station with the stolen property and registered a case.”

Moremi said the investigating officer Sergeant Malesela Kganyago linked the suspect to three other cases in Majaneng village.

“He stole cash, a TV set and speakers and on May 22, 2018 in Lephengville he stole a welding machine. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment October 18, 2022 and declared unfit to possess a firearm,” he said.

The station commander Brigadier Johannes Tau said residential burglaries are a nightmare in the area and the police will keep doing their part to bring perpetrators to book.

He added that the justice system must also do its part in favour of the community.

He applauded the investigating officer for his hard work and dedication to his duties.

“This shows that the police have done their part to link the suspect with previous cases and put the evidence before the court, and we will never rest until we convict other suspects,” he said.
