Rand Water lifts stage 2 water restrictions

The City of Tshwane encouraged residents to continue using water sparingly irrespective of Rand Water’s lifting water restrictions.

Rand Water has lifted water supply restrictions to the metros.

Recently, the water utility had throttled supply to stage 2 water restrictions, which it had implemented as high water consumption threatened system stability.

The high water consumption was brought about by the high weather temperatures.

On Tuesday, November 1, Rand Water announced that reservoir levels in its systems had stabilised and up from 30% to above 60% currently.

Stabilisation of the systems, assisted by good rains, has been a joint and collaborative effort by Rand Water and the three metros, according to Rand Water communication officer Makenosi Maroo.

“Rand Water will therefore lift the water restrictions, effective immediately. In consultation with the metros, a philosophy has been agreed to which [we] will ensure that best water management practices are left in place to ensure that systems are kept stable throughout the coming hot months,” she said.

She added that through these collaborative efforts, the metros have reduced consumption and manage their systems effectively and efficiently.

“Therefore, reduced consumption and leak repairs will be the new order,” she said.

Maroo said the water utility would like to thank the metros and its citizens for their cooperation during the time they were called on to use water sparingly.

“I hope that this watershed moment will lead towards the permanent wise use of potable water,” she said.

The Tshwane metro also thanked all those who heeded the call to use water sparingly during the restriction period.

The City encouraged residents to continue using water sparingly irrespective of Rand Water’s lifting restrictions.

“This will assist the city to maintain its overall reservoirs’ storage capacity at acceptable levels which will avert water shortages and supply interruptions,” said the metro.
