Courier driver outsmarts robbers
The courier driver sped off towards Eersterust police station while being pursued.
A quick-thinking courier driver foiled suspected robbers by driving to the Eersterust police station while being pursued.
According to Sergeant Sam Shibambo, an unknown number of suspects were travelling in three vehicles on Stormvoël Road near Mamelodi and were allegedly attempting to force a courier vehicle off the road.
“The courier driver sped off towards Eersterust police station,” said Shibambo.
“The brazen criminals pursued the courier van to the gate of the police station.”
At the station, the courier driver jumped out of his vehicle and asked the police for help.
The police responded swiftly and managed to corner one of the vehicles that some of the suspects were travelling in.
The driver of this vehicle was arrested for attempted robbery.
“His accomplices managed to flee but the police are closing the net on them.
“The suspect will be profiled to check if he is not linked to other courier robberies that took place in the area recently.
“The investigation is continuing and more arrests are imminent,” said Shibambo.
