Make sure your windscreen is safe, leak-free and clear
Motorists are urged to insist on ultrasonic leak detection for their windscreen this summer festive season.
The festive season brings along an increase in road accidents, but certain precautions could make the difference in safe driving.
One of them, which is often overlooked, is making sure that your car windscreen is safe, leak-free and clear.
“One way to ensure that your windscreen remains free of any leaks or cracks this summer is to get a specialist to run an ultrasonic leak detector over your automotive glass. The detector is a specialised instrument used to detect holes or gaps in the bonding agent that is used to seal the windscreen to the body of the vehicle,” he said.
Motorists can ask for ultrasonic leak detection to be done when they install a new windscreen in their vehicle.
At the same time, an ADAS (advanced driving assistance systems) calibration should be done on the electronic systems that assist drivers in driving and parking functions, playing a critical role in vehicle safety. These systems use technologies such as sensors and cameras to detect obstacles or risks to the vehicle and respond automatically to these dangers.
If this calibration is left undone, some of the vehicle’s safety mechanisms may stop working properly.
In some countries, insurers have even been held liable for not providing calibrations on vehicles when they were necessary.
“Ensure that your service provider has the specialised calibration equipment necessary to make sure that your ADAS is done right,” advises Filum Ho, CEO of Autoboys.
He said drivers should use a water repellent formula on their windows to ensure safe driving in the rain.
“The repellent ensures that you’ll always have a clear view of the road, no matter how many thunderstorms you drive through,” Ho said.
