A man who drowned in the Hennops River in Centurion last Friday also helped clean up the river for a local NGO, the Hennops Revival has confirmed.
Founder and activist of Hennops Revival Tarryn Johnston told Rekord that the man used to collect golf balls as a means of supplementary income during his off days.

She said the team was supposed to return to work on January 4.
Johnston described her colleague as a bubbly individual who was forever happy and heartwarming.

“As the Hennops Revival family we share the heartache and loss with his family members and loved ones and extend our deepest condolences and prayers to get through this difficult time.”
The deceased was recently appointed as one of the team leaders, a position he was proud of.
Last week Friday, Wierdabrug police opened an inquest after his body was discovered by his friend.
Initially, it was believed that he was part of a church group that came to the river to be baptised. Upon investigation, it was discovered that he was actually collecting golf balls that fell into the river.
The tragic incident came weeks after Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso warned residents to stay away from all low-lying bridges.
Hennops River is becoming notorious for people drowning in it. Early last year during the rainy season the emergency services recovered a male body that was swept away by the storm waters.
