Hundreds arrested during Tshwane operation
A total of 492 persons, 218 vehicles and 19 premises were searched during the operation.
Tshwane detectives made 462 arrests during an operation led by Tshwane district commissioner Major-General Azwinndini Nengovhela over the weekend.
The operation included high visibility patrols of crime hotspots, compliance inspections and raiding of illegal liquor outlets from Friday evening into the early hours of Saturday.
Detective teams arrested 273 suspects, 111 on gender-based violence charges.
Eight liquor outlets were inspected, resulting in one tavern being shut down for contravention of the liquor act while 691 835ml of liquor and one gambling machine were confiscated and will be destroyed.
In addition, 27 undocumented persons, as well as a person who employed undocumented persons were detained.
Six persons were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and 46 Aarto fines to the value of R23 700 were issued.
A Toyota Fortuner reported stolen in Silverton was recovered.
Nengovhela extended his gratitude towards the police officers for participating in the operation.
