Police on lookout for hit-and-run BMW driver involved in Salvokop crash
The car ran over nine pedestrians before crashing into a tree.
Local police are searching for a man believed to be behind an incident that left three children dead and six adults injured this past weekend.
The incident occurred between 16:30-17:00 on January 7, near a traffic circle on 6th and Koch streets, Salvokop, Pretoria West.
Tshwane emergency services said that the car ran over nine pedestrians before crashing into a tree.
Three children, aged between four and six years old were declared dead on the scene by paramedics. Two of the children were believed to be twins.
Female patients with moderate to serious injuries were transported to Steve Biko Hospital – one of whom is nine months pregnant.
Multiple persons were lying scattered around the crashed vehicle and the collapsed tree.

The driver of the vehicle in question, a BMW sedan, fled the scene of the crash and is currently wanted by the police.
“It is alleged that the suspect was driving his brother’s BMW at a high speed when he hit the pedestrians,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo.
“The driver of the BMW fled from the scene and police are looking for him.”
Residents are encouraged to contact their local authorities should they have any information that can lead to the suspect’s capture.
“Police have opened a case of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving as well as defeating the ends of justice.
“We are appealing to any person who might have information that can help in finding the suspect to please call the nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” Masondo concluded.
