Postbank solves Sassa glitches

Social grant recipients were unable to access payments to their accounts.

Sassa beneficiaries using Postbank can once again access payments after system glitches have been fixed.

Postbank has since apologised to social grants recipients for failing to pay their monies on time.

The bank said the failure to pay beneficiaries on time was due to system errors.

“The systems glitches have been resolved on January 6 and the grants payments are processing smoothly wherein beneficiaries can access payments through multiple channels.

“These include ATMs, over-the-counter within post office branches as well as retail merchants such as Boxer, Pick n Pay, Usave, Shoprite, SPAR and any retailer that has a cash-back functionality,” spokesperson Bongani Diako said.

Diako said the bank’s technical teams have been working tirelessly to make sure that they restored the stability of the system.

“We, therefore, want to confirm that most of the issues experienced have been resolved. As a result, all social grants recipients using the Sassa/Postbank gold cards can now access their money through different NPS access channels (ATMs and retailers) including via post office branches.”

Despite the bank’s reassurance to its beneficiaries, it also urged them to use alternative methods to collect their payments.

In the meantime, Sassa spokesperson Moabi Pitsi advised beneficiaries to exercise caution when collecting their funds.

“We continue to warn beneficiaries to remain vigilant of misleading information, criminals and scammers as the festive season draws to a close. During grant payment days, there are a lot of transactions clients make to meet their various needs.”

Last month, the agency cautioned beneficiaries with gold Sassa cards against withdrawing from ATMs after Postbank discovered a criminal network that was targeting its ATMs to gain access to beneficiaries’ accounts.

A team of experts and law enforcement agencies were assigned to deal with the matter.
