Eersterust police honour slain groundsman

The groundsman was found murdered in his home in Mamelodi in December.

Eersterust police commemorated the memory of slain groundsman Patrick Japhta by cleaning the station and his storage facility last week.

The 58-year-old groundsman was found murdered at his home in Sun Valley in Mamelodi in December last year.

Eersterust officers won’t soon forget the dedication shown by Patrick Japtha

Before his death, Japtha had been keeping the police station clean for the past 36 years and officers vowed to keep the memory of him alive by keeping their station clean themselves.

Investigation at the time found that Japtha suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body.

The motive for the killing remains unknown and Mamelodi police are investigating.

Eersterust station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Simon Matshwane Theledi applauded the officers for their efforts.
