Hammanskraal cops and residents patrol area together

The community had initiated a patrol to fight crime in the area with the help of the police and other policing forums.

On Friday, members of Hammanskraal Crime Prevention patrolled sectors 1 and 2 following a request by residents.

Police were accompanied by CPF members and the community.

According to police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Margareth Molane, the residents initiated the patrol to fight crime in their area.

“They patrolled their area together with the police. No incidents were reported,” she said.

She added that residents acknowledged that the police can’t fight crime alone and that they need the community to work with them.

“The community thanked Hammanskraal SAPS’s management and officers. We encouraged them to report any crimes that they know of,” she said.

Molane said police promised residents that there will be another such initiative in the future.

Station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Moses Mokwana also thanked the community for the initiative.

He said the community was very pleased to help fight crime in the area.

Hammanskraal residents could perhaps see another drop in crimes in the area like in 2022, which saw a 48.2% drop from 2021, according to CrimeCheck.

Last year, 1 100 were reported compared to 2 123 cases in 2021 – a difference of 1 023.
