Centurion residents frustrated by the metro’s slow response
The residents claimed they have asked the metro countless times to barricade the area around a sinkhole and also fix waterpipe leaks in Monument Avenue.

Lyttelton Manor residents in Centurion have been frustrated by the Tshwane metro’s lack of service delivery.
The residents claimed they have asked the metro countless times to barricade the area around a sinkhole and also fix waterpipe leaks in Monument Avenue.
Nell van Vuuren said she has been sent from pillar to post when she wanted to find out when the sinkhole would be barricaded.
“I reported the matter to the ward councillor and I have also sent countless emails to the metro, but the matter persists. We have kids passing there every day. What if something happens to them?” Van Vuuren said.
Ward councillor David Farquharson confirmed he knew of the situation.
“I have since referred it to officials. I think the delay might have been caused by the December holidays, as the majority of staff went on leave and will only be making their way back this week or early next week,” Farquharson said.
The councillor promised that the matter will be resolved, adding that the metro was working on ways to speed up response time to fast-track service delivery.
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the city will evaluate the area to check whether it could extend the barricade.
“The subsided area in Monument Avenue has been demarcated. The need for further safeguarding measures will be evaluated,” said Mashigo.
Van Vuuren disputes that the metro demarcated the area.
“The area is still not barricaded, I am not sure do they mean by demarcated,” she said.
